Vivek Montrose is the Founder President of
India’s first registered Boomerang associationINDO-BOOMERANG ASSOCIATION. He also happens to be the first Indian to learn
and throw the Boomerang both Nationally as well as Internationally.
He has been in awe of the Boomerang since the age of 13, when he first got it as a gift, and at the tender age of 15, under the guidance of Australian Aboriginal Guru Ken Colbung, learnt to throw as well as carve one, and first took part in a friendly challenge at the Jamboori, an international scout festival in Perth, Western Australia, in 1994-95. He felt really honored to be at the side of his Guru to throw open the Australia-India Hockey series in Bhopal in 1997.
Vivek Montrose is Ken Colbung’s only Indian disciple, started his Boomerang career in 1991 at a young age of 15. He is the first Indian who can not just throw but even carve a Boomerang, His Guru, Mr. Ken Colbung, was an Australian aboriginal. He was the one who introduced and taught Vivek the Boomerang. Vivek Montrose made his first international appearance at Jamboori, in Perth, Australia, in 1994, with his Guru Ken Colbung. There he played with the then Western-Australia champion in a friendly match, resulting in him being widely acknowledged by the media. After his return to India, in 1996, he got the opportunity to participate in a workshop on Boomerang and Aboriginal traditions and tools with Ken Colbung, at IGRMS Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. His interest in this rare sport got him printed in the INDIA TODAY magazine back in 1997.
